JOHN ST PAVEMENT MURAL

Brunswick

Concept commissioned by the city of Merri-bek

Inspired by the site’s surrounds including Fleming Park and the nearby Merri Creek Trail, stylised organic forms reference the local wildlife, native plants and activities of the community. If you take a moment you may see the seeds or flower buds from a flax lily, supersized stamens of a river bottlebrush, silhouettes from the canopy of a shade tree or a path that’s perfect for taking a stroll or ride along. Patterns add interest and mimic the markings from a growling frog, blades of grass, callistemon stigma and pollinated seed pods.

The painted mural pavement offers children the chance for imaginative play, with shapes to explore, stepping stones to hop and jump across and trails to tip toe along. Condensed use of colour subtly divides the space, creating an immersive base for people make their own discoveries as they move freely through the space or sit and enjoy the moment.
